Modelling the Other

Whether a frontier model predicting a named peer model uses evidence about that peer or a prior tied to who built it. Sole author, advised by Sungjoo Ha and Min Lin. I wrote the whole pipeline: collection from sixteen subject models across several providers, dual-judge labelling, the prediction runner and the analysis. A pilot has run; the design is in blind review before pre-registration. Submission to TMLR planned for December 2026 or January 2027.

John Locke Institute Essay Competition

Two essays. Law: what would happen to criminal sentencing if judges and legislators accepted determinism. Science and technology: whether we should be polite to ChatGPT, with a blinded study in which 43 students aged 15–19 compared DeepSeek-R1’s answers to 25 pairs of polite and bare prompts. Results on 3 October 2026.

VPS Veritas, AI consulting intern

Paid internship with a marine fuel testing company, two weeks in Singapore and six remote. Built an offline-first Windows and Android app for bunker quantity surveyors that replaced a retyped Excel workbook, a sales tool with seven savings calculators and a proposal generator, and a Python pipeline that costed the bids in a freight tender. Each was handed over with documentation.

International online hackathon run by our school, for students aged 14 to 18, with US$3,000 in prizes. Co-lead with Ruchika Dutt, who teaches computer science at CIS. I built the competition platform on my own and negotiated the event’s dates with school leadership and an outside vendor.

CIS-MAP

Campus wayfinding for new English-language learners, in English and Chinese. Routes between 53 locations are precomputed in C++ with A* search. Started as a Service as Action project and presented to senior school leadership.
